Abstract
The Grievor missed four hours of her shift when bad weather prevented her prompt return from taking her son to an appointment with his dentist. She was denied special leave to cover the missed time. It is the position of the Employer that the Grievor is not entitled to special leave because she put herself in the situation of being at a considerable distance away from her place of employment on her day off as a matter of free choice.
