Frédéric Bouhon

Biography

Frédéric Bouhon was a visiting professor at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University from March to August 2019. Since 2014, he has been a professor at the University of Liège (Belgium) where he teaches Human Rights, Public Law and Constitutional law to undergraduate and graduate students. His research focuses mainly on electoral law and on human rights. During his time as a visiting professor at Dalhousie University, his main interest was a research project entitled "Human Rights and Risk", the provisional results of which he presented at a conference held on 22 July 2019.

Frédéric Bouhon is the author or co-author of several books and numerous articles, published in French, in English or in German. In particular, he published a revised version of his PhD dissertation entitled Electoral Law and the Principle of Equality (Droit électoral et principe d’égalité, Bruylant, 2014). He is co-author, with Professor Christian Behrendt, of a textbook providing an introduction to the general theory of the State (Introduction à la théorie générale de l’État, 3rd edition, Larcier, 2014). He also edited, with Professor Min Reuchamps, a collective book on Belgium's electoral systems (Les systèmes électoraux de la Belgique, 2nd edition, Larcier, 2018).

In recent years, Frédéric Bouhon has been a student, researcher or visiting professor at several foreign universities: Humboldt University Berlin (2006), Queen Mary University London (2011), University of Constance (2012-13), Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (2017-18) and Dalhousie University Halifax (2019).

He regularly collaborates as an expert with various national and international institutions, such as the Venice Commission for Democracy through Law (Council of Europe).
