Abstract
The grievances involve suspension of the Grievors for part of a shift. Each of the Grievors was given a direct order to attend a mandatory information session on a process improvement initiative held during working hours. Each refused and was suspended for the remainder of his shift. The Union argues that no discipline was warranted because these refusals were justified and had no adverse effect on production, and because they were not orders to work; that there was no reason for an immediate or emergency suspension; and, at most, a reprimand was warranted in these cases.
