Abstract
What can André Zucca’s photos, taken during the Nazi occupation of Paris, tell us about the law to come or the challenges it will pose to lawyers, legal scholars and legal educators? In short: Zucca’s photos serve not just as a cipher for a past in need of reckoning but as a caution about abiding a present in which crisis is always just out of frame. In the throes of slow-motion apocalypse, what should an intellectual be? And for whom? In 80 years, when someone is rifling through an attic shoebox of our history, will we appear like the subjects of Zucca’s photographs? Like Zucca the photographer? Or in a different collection entirely? As disruptions force the question of the extent and nature of our responsibilities, as scholars or otherwise, should we apprehend our present as a moment of norms being disturbed, or has the normal already become unsettling?
Que peuvent nous dire les photos d’André Zucca, prises pendant l’occupation nazie de Paris, sur le droit à venir ou sur les défis qu’il posera aux avocats, aux juristes et aux éducateurs juridiques? En bref: les photos de Zucca ne servent pas seulement à coder un passé qui a besoin d’être pris en compte, mais aussi à mettre en garde contre un présent dans lequel la crise est toujours juste hors du cadre. Dans les affres d’une apocalypse au ralenti, que doit être un intellectuel? Et pour qui? Dans quatre-vingts ans, lorsque quelqu’un fouillera dans une boîte à chaussures du grenier de notre histoire, apparaîtrons-nous comme les sujets des photographies de Zucca? Comme Zucca le photographe? Ou dans une collection complètement différente? Alors que les perturbations nous obligent à nous interroger sur l’étendue et la nature de nos responsabilités, en tant qu’universitaires ou autres, devrions-nous appréhender notre présent comme un moment où les normes sont perturbées, ou la normalité est-elle déjà devenue troublante?
